The city of New Orleans announced Friday it is preparing for next week's freeze.
"Residents should be prepared to take action to protect the “Four Ps” – people, pets, pipes and plants. Individual preparations should be completed before Monday evening," read the city's statement.
The New Orleans Fire Department is reminding people to practice fire safety when using space heaters.
The city announced utilities disconnections are suspended. The Sewerage & Water Board says residents who run water to avoid frozen, burst pipes should run only the faucet furthest away from where water enters the home, and only run a thin stream.
