With possible thunderstorms in the forecast for the region, the city of New Orleans on Friday announced that drivers can park on neutral grounds to try and avoid high water.
Neutral ground parking is permitted through 8 a.m. Saturday.
"Please don't block intersections, streetcar tracks, sidewalks, or bike paths," the city said in its announcement.
The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness also advises motorists to never attempt to drive through floodwaters. Even if the vehicle is high enough to handle it, it can push water into nearby homes and businesses.
