Two local special legislative races are heading to runoffs, while another decided a new state representative for part of New Orleans.
Ed Murray beat Eugene Green by 238 votes to win the House District 97 race. Murray will succeed Jason Willard, who vacated the seat after winning a seat on the New Orleans City Council.
Kenya Rounds and Dana Henry will meet in next month's runoff for the District 100 House seat. The winner will succeed Jason Hughes, who vacated the post to take a seat on the New Orleans City Council. Rounds pulled 33 percent of the vote, while Henry took 30 percent. Three other candidates, Patricia Boyd Robertson (15 percent), Aeisha Kelly (14 percent), and Candice Taylor (seven percent), ran in the primary.
In Senate District 3, Sidney Barthelemy II and Kenn Barnes will meet in next month's general election. Former senator Joseph Bouie vacated the seat to become chancellor of Southern University New Orleans. Barthelemy led all candidates by taking 44 percent of the vote. Barnes pulled 22 percent support. Chad Lauga and Jon Johnson missed the runoff, polling 19 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
The special legislative runoff elections are set for March 14.
