New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell will not be lifting the city mask mandate or vaccine requirements.
Mayoral Spokesman Beau Tidwell made the announcement moments before Governor John Bel Edwards made the announcement today that he is extending the state’s mask mandate for another four weeks.
“Speaking to Dr. Avegno and the Health Department, they are encouraged by the trends we have been seeing lately, right now we are not making changes to the policies in place, but it is possible we will get there in the next few weeks,” Tidwell explained.
Tidwell says the mitigation efforts in New Orleans are working since the mayor required masks and people to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test at restaurants, gyms, and venues. The average daily cases have decreased by 76 percent according to Tidwell.
