The city of New Orleans has launched a web site to let residents know exactly when school zone enforcement cameras are active.
A recently enacted state law specifies that school zone cameras shall only operate for an hour before and after the beginning of the school day, and an hour before and after dismissal.
With different schools having different start and dismissal times, it means the city can no longer set a uniform time for school ones.
The city's Department of Public Works is in the process of reprogramming flashing lights and updating signage.
Drivers can also find out which school zone cameras are currently operating, along with the hours of operation, from the city's web site. CLICK HERE for the city's list of speed cams.
