Summer vacation is almost here, and tourism leaders in New Orleans can't wait.
Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer travel season, and the Crescent City has plenty of events to bring travelers here, like Sail 250, part of the celebration of the United States' 250th birthday.
"We will have the tall ships here throughout the week of Memorial Day," said Kelly Schulz, Senior Vice President of Communications at New Orleans & Company. "The ships will be open to the public. They're coming from all over the world."
Schulz says that same week, the city will also host North America's "50 Best Restaurant" awards.
"We'll have some of the best chefs and restaurateurs and judges in New Orleans around the Memorial Day holiday," she said, leading off what officials hope will be a successful summer: "The Essence Festival of Culture. We have the X-Games, which is a new event for us, Sail 250, North America's 50 Best, Bocuse d'Or and the Pastry World Cup."
It's a summer full of sizzling events meant to keep visitors and their dollars flowing in.
