New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office proposed a 2021 budget to the city council today that includes one unpaid day off for every pay period in the year, 26 in all.
The proposed furloughs effect all but 527 city workers -- those workers make under $30,000 a year and will be exempt from the furloughs.
The budget would cut the pay of police officers six percent and fire fighters eight percent.
Other departments are proposed to take deeper cuts, with the mayor's office estimating it all averages out to 20 percent in reduced spending.
