I had a conversation with some friends the other day and everyone was equally frustrated about crime in New Orleans, and wondering when things are going to change. We were just recounting horrific story after horrific story of bad things that happened in this city as of late, and wondering what our society is doing about it.
I urge everyone to look at the latest New Orleans Crime Coalition survey on civic priorities and policy makers. The survey shows that regardless of race, gender and political affiliation, that we all just want a safe place to live, work and raise a family. That may be cliche but it’s amazing how often those wants are brought up time and time again. What we want out of life is not that difficult to achieve.
In the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, political leaders are trying to trick our government and our people. They are advocating for ways to get around the law. They are the ultimate hypocrites, pointing fingers at folks who are violating the ordinances. Yet, there is hypocrisy in their approach because they are not upholding the laws that don't match their ideology. They are setting our country up for failure. I just don't understand why people don't see it and don't call them out. Our ideology is our ideology, but it can’t be to the detriment of all others. Elections have consequences, but it can't be only the consequences that align with your ideology.
We think about precedent, super precedent, all these trick words that are used in confirmation hearings for Supreme Court justices. Now, we have idiots in Congress saying the justices lied. If you go back and look at their testimony, they never said where they stood on the issue of abortion, they simply gave an explanation of what the status of the law was on that given day, and everybody in the room knows that there's a likelihood that it could change.
This is all about trying to mislead you and have you buy into their smoke screen. Shame on both Democrats and Republican leaders who try to work around every law or ruling handed down. Shame on the prosecutors who’ve said in the aftermath of Roe that they won’t enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling. Please, show me in the law where they get to ignore the law
Folks, if elected officials say they’re only going to enforce the laws they like and ignore the laws they don’t like, then how do you seek justice? They are walking to the beat of their own drum.
