While a State House Committee voted down a proposed school policy requiring students to get the COVID-19 vaccine, NOLA Public Schools report they are dealing with 22 active COVID-19 cases across their school system.

A statement sent from the public school system says, “As of Friday, Dec. 3, the District is tracking a total of 22 active cases of COVID-19 (4 staff; 18 students) among 13 schools in our school community, resulting in 92 individuals in quarantine.”

On Monday, the Louisiana House Health and Welfare Committee voted 13-2 to block a controversial Louisiana Department of Health policy proposal, which would add the COVID-19 vaccine to a list of required vaccinations for students to attend school next year.

The policy would only apply to students 16 and older eligible under the emergency use authorization.

House Committee members heard hours of testimony on Monday, over whether the state health department can legally require parents to vaccinate their children against COVID.

The committee ultimately voted to block the policy proposed by the LDH and supported by Governor John Bel Edwards.
