At a press briefing with Chief Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, New Orleans Police Department the progress made at closing a number of cases, including four homicides and the arrest of a 13-year-old for numerous felonies.
The Homicide Unit cleared four homicides this week, including a double homicide that occurred in the Fourth District on March 28th in the off Tullis Drive and General DeGaulle and a homicide that occurred in the Seventh District on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the intersection of Forum and Duane Streets.
Homicide detectives and Fourth District officers took Hollis Carter into custody yesterday. He is now charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the killings of Breyiana Brown and Caleb Johnson. And a 17-year-old juvenile was arrested for a homicide in the Seventh District of a 16-year-old victim.
Two open homicides, one from 2013, another from 2018 were cleared when it was learned the perpetrators were both deceased.
NOPD has also made progress in getting guns off the streets, including the high profile arrest of three men each, armed with high powered weapons, walking down Toledano Street last Friday.
The Department’s VCAIT (Violent Crime Abatement Investigative Team) Unit arrested a 13-year-old juvenile male on April 11, 2021, for Simple Robbery, Carjacking, and attempt second-degree murder.
The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Toulouse Street on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. In this incident, a 73-year-old female victim suffered serious injuries as the perpetrators stole her vehicle.
The same juvenile subject was also rebooked by the 2nd District for Purse Snatching in the 6100 block of South Claiborne Avenue on April 6th.
He was also re-booked for auto theft and possession of stolen property in connection with an incident that occurred on April 10, 2021, in the 600 block of North Broad Street in the First District.
The same juvenile is also charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a handgun, and attempted auto theft related to an incident that occurred April 13, 2021, in the 2700 block of Bienville Street in the First District.
