A 38-year-old man is accused of two shootings hours apart near the New Orleans Fairgrounds on Tuesday.

The New Orleans Police Department says Lance Daniel Dodd shot and killed a man in the afternoon. Police were called to the 3000 block of Belfort Street, just off Gentilly Boulevard, where they found a man sitting in a white SUV suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was later pronounced dead.

Police say their detectives were able to identify Dodd as a suspect. Officers found him just a few blocks away from the scene in the 2700 block of Lapeyrouse Street.

Authorities booked Dodd on charges of second degree murder, aggravated battery by shooting, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

According to investigators, Dodd was also responsible for a shooting that happened a few hours earlier, just a few blocks away in the 3200 block of Trafalgar Street.

The case remains under investigation.

Police say anyone who has information should call NOPD Homicide at (504) 658-5300, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP).

Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
