The NOPD confiscated a 10-foot long python over the weekend.
The snake and its owner were both taken into custody by the NOPD on Saturday after a French Quarter patrolman saw the man holding the reptile up in the 200 block of Bourbon Street and offering viewings.
Jason Wilson, 43, was charged with for possession of a wild or exotic animal and exhibition without a permit. He also had an outstanding warrant for the same charge as well as resisting an officer dating back to November 2023.
Wilson had been issued a court order which prohibited him from showing off the snake outside his home and in the French Quarter.
Gov. Jeff Landry posted on X (formerly Twitter) to commend the NOPD and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, who aided in the operation.
The albino reticulated python was taken to the Audubon Zoo, where it is currently being cared for, though it will not become a permanent resident there, according to a report from NOLA.com.
Wilson could eventually have the snake returned to him.
The zoo stated that the python was well cared for and recently fed when it was confiscated by NOPD.
