NOPD investigates a fatal multiple car crash on I-10W near Crowder

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal multiple vehicle crash that killed one person and injured two others.

The crash happened on I-10 westbound near Crowder Boulevard on a dense foggy Wednesday morning.


“At around 2:45 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to the location for a traffic accident involving four vehicles,” said an NOPD report. “Upon arrival, officers discovered a total of six people involved in the accident.”

Police say one of the unidentified males was pronounced dead at the scene and two other injured males were transported by NOEMS to the hospital where they are in stable condition.  The others reported no known injuries.

The initial police investigation revealed that the driver of the Dodge Charger, with three passengers inside, was heading westbound on I-10 when, for unknown reasons, the driver hit an 18-wheeler, which was traveling in the same direction.

The crash caused the Dodge to spin out of control causing an accident with a third vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta with one person inside and another vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, also with one person inside.

The deceased victim was driving Jetta was found on the ground below the overpass. The injured male victims were driving the Charger and Malibu. Their condition is unknown.
