For the second time this week, the New Orleans Police Department is investigating three shootings that occurred within 24 hours of each other.
Two of those shootings happened in New Orleans East.
The latest shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Martin Drive near Morrison Road.
According to NOPD Officer Reese Harper, two people were shot in the body and were taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Harper did not specify how many wounds the victims sustained.
Sunday’s shooting happened about a mile-and-a-half away from Saturday’s incident. That shooting near the corner of Downman and Dwyer Roads landed one person in the hospital.
Police have not said if these shootings are connected.
An hour before getting the call from Martin Drive, NOPD officers responded to a shooting in the Seventh Ward.
The NOPD received that call around 2:45 p.m.
According to Ofc. Harper, the victim suffered a body wound and was taken to the hospital in a private car.
These shootings are the latest in a rash of crime that’s hitting the city as the New Orleans Police Department’s force dwindles to historic lows.
