UPDATE: Police say the suspect was arrested. "The barricaded subject in this incident has surrendered to police without further incident. He was taken into custody at about 11:18 p.m.," Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in am email.
NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated assault on Tricou Avenue near Douglas Street in the Holy Cross neighborhood of the Lower Ninth Ward.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant who reported that a male individual inside the house was armed reportedly with an assault rifle.
Officers briefly spoke to the male subject, described as a 25 year old male, at which time the subject retreated inside the residence, opened fire toward the officers and barricaded himself inside the residence.
No officers were injured, but a police unit was struck by gunfire.
After peaceful attempts to have the subject exit the house were unsuccessful, NOPD Special Operations Division officers were dispatched.
A SWAT roll was later declared.
