Four people were injured in a shooting shortly after noon Thursday in Gentilly. New Orleans Police say two juveniles, and an adult man and woman were hurt in the incident.

It happened in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree store in the 4200 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

NOPD Captain Wayne Delarge said they believe the two youngsters were the intended targets, and the two others were bystanders.

"This seems to be intentional," the captain said, "with two of the victims who were sitting outside of the establishment fired upon by the occupant of a black Kia Optima."

Capt. Delarge says the gunman got out of the car, armed with a rifle, and opened fire.

"As a result of him firing and discharging that weapon at the two victims outside, they sustained gunshot wounds as well as two innocent victims who were inside of the store making purchases," he said.

Capt. Delarge said all wounds appear to be non-life-threatening.

The gunman fled the scene.
