A cop fired at least one shot this morning near the Superdome in New Orleans.

NOPD said, "An officer-involved shooting incident... occurred this morning in the 1500 block of Poydras Street."

The Public Affairs Division did not offer any other details initially.

We later learned it started with Superdome security calling NOPD to report a suspect with a knife outside the Dome, near the ticket booth around 7:00am.

Chief Deputy Superintendent Chris Goodly said the responding New Orleans Police officer shot the suspect in the arm and "upper extremities of his body."

He will be reassigned to a desk job pending review of the shooting.

The officer joined the NOPD in 2020.

No one else was injured.

The man who was shot was taken to the hospital.

NOPD said the suspect "appeared to be over 40 years old."

The officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the incident.  That video will be released in the next ten days.
