If you’ve been frustrated about speeders in local school zones and the use of those illegal four-wheelers and dirt bikes on city roads, NOPD Chief Anne Kirkpatrick says the department is going to start cracking down on these issues.
Kirkpatrick says school zone enforcement began as of Monday, August 3rd. The effort is in full gear as schools around New Orleans are now back in session and safety is of the utmost importance. “We are really making sure that our kids and our community is safe. So, slow it down and be mindful of everybody and be aware,” noted the NOPD Chief. Kirkpatrick also emphasized that the fines for those school zone speeding tickets can be quite expensive.
While a great many people are used to thinking just a FEW miles an hour over the speed limit won’t cause a fuss, Kirkpatrick says to think again. “Bring it down to 20mph. Don’t try to go up to 25mph, because some people think it’s okay to just go five miles over the speed limit. No. You’re going to get a ticket. So, slow it down,” Kirkpatrick went on to stress.
