The man who shot at NOPD officers and engaged authorities in a standoff late Saturday night into early Sunday morning is the same man who shot two other men, killing one of them, Saturday afternoon, NOPD brass say.
That suspect is now in custody on a second-degree murder charge.
According to an NOPD spokesperson, Devin Green, 36, surrendered without further incident early Sunday morning after barricading himself inside a North Tonti Street home for several hours. Police say the standoff began after Green shot at two officers who went to the home to serve him a warrant. Green's shots missed those officers.
Investigators say Green was the assailant who shot two men who were inside a car near the corner of Louisa and North Tonti Streets on Saturday afternoon. That location is about a block away from where the officer-involved shooting and standoff took place. One of the victims in the intial shooting died at a hospital. The other's conditions is described as "stable."
Green will face additional charges pending the investigation into the officer-involved shooting and the standoff.
