Northshore man pleads guilty in Jan. 6 case

A Covington has man pleaded guilty to taking part in the January 6, 2021 attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Twenty-seven-year-old Colby Purkel pleaded guilty to felony charges of civil disorder. He will be sentenced August 1.


His father, 51-year-old Willard Purkel Jr., was arrested with his son last November, and is still awaiting trial.

According to federal prosecutors, the Purkels joined a group of rioters who forced their way into the Capitol around 3 p.m., as law enforcement struggled against them to shut the doors.

Willard Purkel's trial date has not been set.
