St. Tammany Parish jail booking records show that the principal and assistant principal at E.E. Lyon Elementary School in Covington face criminal charges.
Principal Lauryn Faciane (left) was booked for alleged “ABUSE OF CHILDREN” and “CHILD ABUSE.”
Assistant Principal Tonya Barth (right) was booked on charges including “ABUSE OF CHILDREN,” according to jail records. The school’s website spells Barth’s first name as “Tonya” while the jail records have it spelled “Tanya”.
Cops say Faciane and Barth are not accused ot abusing children, but were aware of abuse they failed to report.
"The Covington Police Department has filed criminal charges against two administrators of E.E. Lyon Elementary School in connection with alleged failures to comply with Louisiana's mandatory reporting law," Deputy Chief of Covington Police Kevin Collins said in a news release.
He says the charges surround allegations that the pair didn't comply with mandatory reporting laws.
"That statute requires designated individuals, including school administrators, to promptly report suspected abuse, neglect, and certain other incidents involving children to law enforcement or appropriate authorities."
Collins did not release any details of the case or cases that the administrators allegedly failed to report.
"In the interest of protecting the children involved, and consistent with applicable law, the Department will not be releasing details regarding the underlying incidents that gave rise to the charges."
Bond for both women was set at $5000.
