One of the most popular stories to come out of LSU’s week-plus-long stay in Omaha, a baseball business trip that saw the Tigers bring home their first national championship in 14 years, was the tale of a local pizzeria and its alcohol-drenched charity elective.
The “Jell-O Shot Challenge” hosted by Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina had been an annual custom the last few years, but 2023 marked the first time LSU fans got involved, and the Tiger faithful nearly tripled the previous watermark for the contest.
Yes, Tiger fans were aided by a couple of deep-pocketed celebrities, but it stands to reason that they didn’t actually need any help at all to break the contest’s previous record.
LSU fans eventually drank 68,888 Jell-O shots, setting an extraordinarily high standard for future fanbases.
But all that hard drinking wasn’t for nothing. $1 from the proceeds of every shot sold was set aside for a local food bank, and that means Rocco’s will be donating $68,888 to the LSU Student Food Pantry.
In all, the fanbases from the eight schools involved in the College World Series bought over 142,000 shots.
