Hours after the city of New Orleans closed out a year in which the city’s rates of fatal shootings and non-fatal shootings decreased, New Orleans police found themselves investigating the city’s first two shootings of the year, including the New Orleans’s first homicide of 2025.
The deadly shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday on Convention Center Boulevard near Girod Street.
According to police, a man was shot and killed at that location while another victim, a woman, suffered a graze wound. Police arrested a suspect at that scene. The suspect’s name and charges have not yet been disclosed.
The second shooting happened at an unknown location this morning. Police say the victim went to a local emergency room around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday seeking treatment. Hospital workers contacted police shortly afterward.
If you know anything about either shooting, call the NOPD at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
