The NOPD says there was a deadly crash very early this morning.
"New Orleans Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident which occurred at about 2:17 a.m. on Interstate 10 Eastbound at North Claiborne Avenue," Public Information Officer Barry Fletcher said in an email.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash and investigation closed all lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound for about three hours.
All eastbound traffic was being diverted off the interstate at the Orleans Avenue/Vieux Carre exit.
An initial police report says the victim was a "black male." He lost control of his vehicle and hit the guard rail on the I-10, then spun into traffic. Three more vehicles hit his.
"Vehicle #1 traveling on I-10 East crashed into guard rail and came to stop in center lane. Vehicles #2, #3 and #4 subsequently crashed into Vehicle #1. Driver of Vehicle #1 was pronounced deceased on scene."
