After New Orleans city council members discovered carjacking victims were charged towing fees after their stolen vehicle was recovered by the city, the city now has a website where victims can get reimbursed for those fees.
If you paid out-of-pocket fees to recover your stolen vehicle from a tow company in Orleans Parish since August 1, 2017, you may be eligible for reimbursement from the City of New Orleans.
Individuals can submit a recovered vehicle reimbursement claim by visiting https://nola.gov/nopd/towed-stolen-vehicle-reimbursement/.
The online portal will collect information about the vehicle and applicant, along with proof of payment and proof of identification.
As reimbursement requests are submitted, they will be verified against the New Orleans Police Department records to ensure that the vehicle in question was involved in a police incident and was subsequently towed.
Once this verification is complete, a check will be mailed.
Applicants should allow up to 90 days for their reimbursement application to be verified and paid.
If you have any questions, contact towingreimbursements@nola.gov.
