Kenner police say a 65-year-old man riding an e-bike disregarded the red light at W. Esplanade Ave. and Loyola Dr. with deadly consequences.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
"Based upon witness statements and evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe the victim was operating an e-bike northbound on Loyola Drive," according to Deputy Chief Mark McCormick. "Witness statements indicate the e-bike disregarded a red traffic signal and entered the intersection, where it was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on West Esplanade Avenue through a green traffic signal."
Paramedics took the man to the hospital where he later died.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, and no criminal charges are expected.
