Ponchatoula High student arrested for allegedly hitting teacher

Cops have arrested a 15-year-old student who they say struck at teacher at Ponchatoula High School.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says there was a fight Wednesday near the school cafeteria.

"When deputies reached the disturbance, it was determined that four total students had been involved, with one of those students intentionally hitting a teacher as well as a security guard," according to a news release. "That same student is accused of threatening other school leaders following the incident. He was immediately taken into custody."

The teacher sought medical attention.

"The injured teacher was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment and was released."

The student is facing a list of charges.

"The 15-year-old male has been booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count each of 2nd Degree Battery on a School Teacher, Battery on a School Teacher, Simple Battery on a Security Guard, Simple Assault, Disturbing the Peace By Fighting, Unlawful Disruption of School Operations, and Inciting a Riot."
