One of New Orleans favorite little movie houses has taken a dramatic step into the world mall-based multiplex theaters.
The owners of Prytania Theater have announced they’ve taken over the vacant Cinebarre Theater at Canal Place.
The new Prytania Theaters at Canal Place will open to the public November 6, 2020.
No word is out on what the premiere film will be.
The former Cinebarre sought to bring high-end motion picture experiences to the viewing public.
At one time Cinebarre offered food and full alcoholic beverage service during the films to patrons in luxury seating.
The concept closed in May 2019.
With Prytania in charge, the attitude will be much more casual.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate the nine screens will give the new owners the chance to schedule films across all types of tastes for the viewing public.
As General Manager Robert Brunet states, “classic films, specialty films, film festivals, locally produced films, movie premieres, birthday parties and more.”
Returning to a theater on Canal Street is sort of homecoming for Brunet, he grew up working with his father running the Lowes and Joy theaters on Canal Street.
The new Prytania will offer the usual movie theater fare of popcorn and snacks, and will include the opportunity of serving alcoholic beverages to moviegoers as well.
But these will not be delivered to your seat, as Brunet says that’s a distraction in the auditorium.
