A race that would typically fly under the radar in New Orleans is catching major heat.
It started with a call for voter turnout in the election for a spot on the Crescent Soil and Water Board which typically doesn't see opposition, whoever urban farmer Erica Johnson and fishing captain Lloyd Landry went head to head for the spot.
The vote was to have taken place on Saturday. However, several of the polling locations for the vote ran out of ballots and closed early.
Paper signs were left on locked doors instructing voters who showed up to call a phone number to "complain". However, several constituents said no one answered the number.
Councilwoman Helena Moreno is calling for a full revote in light of what happened.
The election is not overseen by the secretary of state but by the crescent soil and water board conservation district itself. It was said each polling location was equipped with only 300 ballots.
