Memorial Day Weekend is a sign for many to hit the Holiday Road but this year is shaping up to be one of the biggest in recent history.
Millions are expected to pack up and hit the road as AAA's Don Redman explains.
"We are expecting about forty five million travellers with about ten million of those who will pass through the gulf south."
Redman says you would have to go back about twenty years to find numbers that high.
He also notes that people are staying longer and travelling farther this year.A forty five cent decrease in gas prices over the last year has something to do with it.
"There is a definite correlation between families having more money in their budgets, especially from lower gas prices, and how they spend their vacations."
Redman says holiday travellers in the New Orleans metro are going as far as Orlando, New York, and Alaska for the weekend.
