The redevelopment of the former Jazzland/Six Flags site in New Orleans East is one step closer to becoming reality.

On Monday, the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority Board of Commissioners approved the Bayou Phoenix master plan for the former amusement park site. Board officials say the approval gives Bayou Phoenix the “green light” to “move forward with essential tasks, including negotiating the ground lease agreement.”

“The approved master plan stands as a testament to NORA's commitment to thoughtful urban development and community engagement,” Brenda M.
Breaux, the executive director of the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority, said in a statement. “The plan reflects careful consideration of the site’s unique history, while also embracing innovative ideas to create a vibrant and inclusive space that will contribute to the city's future.”

In May, the city of New Orleans selected Bayou Phoenix to redevelop the former theme park near the Interstate 10/Interstate 510 junction.
The group’s preliminary plans for the site include building a logistics hub, water park, sports complex, and hotels there. The redevelopment work could be completed as early as 2026.
