The New Orleans City Council's utilities committee meets today, and it wants the Sewerage & Water Board to answer some questions.
A lot of the flooding that happened in Saturday's deluge happened in Councilmember Joe Giarrusso's district. He told WWL's Newell Normand he definitely has questions about keeping the electricity flowing to the drain pumps.
"How are we going to make sure that there's enough power? What are alternative things we can do at the pump stations, perhaps, to make sure everything is working?" he asked.
Giarrusso said that after the 2019 after the Mother's Day flood, he called on the administration to clean catch basins and adjacent drain lines, and after Hurricane Ida in 2021, he urged officials to develop a drainage plan for Lakeview.
"When people have been banging the table and saying, 'theses are the changes that need to be made,' then it needs to happen," he said.
The city council utilities committee meets at 1 p.m.
