Drivers are getting an unexpected gift at the pump this holiday season. GasBuddy Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says gas prices heading into Christmas are the lowest they’ve been since March of 2021!
DeHaan says this Christmas will also be the cheapest at the pump since 2020, offering some relief as families juggle higher costs elsewhere.
Right now, gas prices are sitting below $3 a gallon in 40 states, with some drivers seeing prices dip even further.
“In some states and at some pumps, we’re actually seeing gas prices below two dollars,” DeHaan said.
And the savings may stick around. DeHaan says the slower winter travel season could help keep prices steady, as many Americans opt to stay home rather than hit the road.
“With winter months ahead and less travel, these lower prices should hold,” he said.
Bottom line: while groceries, gifts, and bills may still stretch budgets this season, gas likely won’t be what breaks the bank.
