House Majority Leader Steve Scalise will return to Capitol Hill next week.
In an announcement sent to news outlets on Thursday, the congressman from Jefferson Parish says his doctors have cleared him to travel after he completed autologous stem cell treatment for multiple myeloma. Scalise was diagnosed with cancer six months ago and has been working from home while undergoing treatment.
“He is in complete remission and will be returning to Washington next week for votes," the statement from Scalise's office said. "He is thankful for his positive prognosis, and for the support of his medical team, family, colleagues, and fellow Louisianans.”
This announcement comes days after Republicans in the House narrowly failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkis, a vote for which Scalise was not present.
