Congressman Steve Scalise or Metairie today is calling for straight answers from federal authorities into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The House Majority Leader says he is fed up with lies and secrets.
"If you can't trust that the Secret Service or the FBI are being straight with you, that's why we are doing our own investigation," Scalise told WWL's Don Dubuc. "We've got to get answers. We've got to make sure this doesn't happen again."
A bipartisan task force is now investigating.
"I think more is going to come out about the mistakes that were made."
He is also calling for reforming the culture of federal law enforcement agencies.
"We are ultimately get the straight answers, but it shouldn't be like pulling teeth," Scalise insisted. "Why did they lie to the American people?"
Scalise says the July 13 Task Force also has to force the feds to clean up those agencies so they can focus on doing their vital jobs correctly.
A news release says, "The Task Force is empowered with all investigative authority of the House of Representatives, including subpoena authority. For the remainder of this Congress, it will assume control and jurisdiction over all pending House committee investigations regarding the Trump assassination attempt. The goal of the Task Force is threefold: To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination. To ensure accountability. To prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again."
The Task Force will also make recommendations for reform to the relevant government agencies and recommend legislation to implement the reforms.
