Slidell man convicted on fentanyl trafficking charges, faces 30 years

Eugene McKnight
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office

A Slidell man will be sentenced in September after a jury found him guilty on multiple drug trafficking charges.

The jury convicted Eugene McKnight, 66, of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

Slidell police arrested McKnight in July 2025 after tracking him from an apartment in New Orleans East into their city before pulling him over for traffic violations. The officers who made that stop found the drugs and the money McKnight made from selling the drugs inside the vehicle.

Prosecutors told jurors that police also found text messages on McKnight's phone in which he set up his drug sales.

McKnight faces up to 30 years in prison.
