The City of Slidell Police Department is posting a 22.5% drop in crime year-over-year.

According to a release from the Department, significant drops in violent crime and property crimes drove down the number.

Since elected police chief at the end of 2016, Chief Randy Fandal has taken a tough stance on crime by sending a clear message to criminals…‘If you prey on our citizens, we will chase you and we will catch you.’ Since 2016, Chief Fandal has sliced violent crime in Slidell by -33% and property crime by -45%. Nearly every major crime category has shown a decrease in the total number of reported crimes.

“We have made significant progress with fixing our manpower issues by revamping our pay plan and increasing our overall number of patrol officers who patrol our city,” says Chief Randy Fandal. “As much as I would like to take credit for the reduction in crime, it’s the dedicated men and women of this police department who have accomplished this.”

Last year, the Slidell Police Department handled 30,105 calls for service, which was an increase of 2,369 calls (+8.5%) from 2020.
Slidell Police averages approximately 83 calls per day.

Chief Fandal went on to say, “We are tough on crime, but we also balance that ‘tough image’ by humanizing our officers through community policing. Our citizens are our eyes and ears. I can’t thank them enough for their continued support. I attribute our good relationship to the continued community policing efforts by our officers. Programs like Kids and Police (KAP), Shop with a Cop, and our revamped National Night Out event have proven to be successful. Building trust with all members of our community is the key to success.”
