With highs in the 90s and heat indices in the 100s, people will be cranking their air conditioning in the coming days. That is going to mean increasing electric bills.

With air conditioners blasting, Entergy is offering recommendations on keeping your bill from getting too hot.

"Heating and cooling costs can account for more than fifty percent of a typical residential customer's bill," said Entergy spokesman David Freese.

Freese recommends setting thermostats at 78 degrees, or the maximum temperature one finds comfortable.

"Pleas keep in mind that each degree below 78 potentially will raise your bill by three percent," he said.

Freese says fans use much less electricity, and can help you feel a lot cooler so your A/C doesn't have to work as hard.
