A Boutte woman is facing charges after sheriff's deputies say she posed as a teen to enroll at Hahnville High School. That woman's mother is also facing charges for allegedly registering her daughter at that school.
According to St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputies, investigators got a tip that Jessenia Gutierrez-Serrano was older than the age listed on her school records, 17. Detectives say they learned during the investigation that Gutierrez-Serrano's mother, Martha Jessenia Gutierrez-Alvarado, used a fraudulent passport and birth certificate to enroll her daughter at Hahnville High School.
Deputies say the St. Charles Parish Public School System initially investigated the claim before turning it over to the sheriff's office. The school district, deputies say, fully cooperated with the investigation.
Gutierrez-Serrano, who actual age is 28, and Gutierrez-Serrano, 46, are both facing one count each of injuring public records.
The case remains under investigation.
