St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies will be getting a raise next year.
Sheriff Randy Smith's budget for Fiscal Year 2024 includes a three-and-a-half percent pay increase for employees who have worked with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office for at least six months. Employees who have been with the agency for less than six months will receive a one-and-a-half percent pay hike.
Smith says giving his employees raises has been a priority of his because he considers it an investment that necessary to recruit and retain qualified deputies.
“The dedicated and hard-working men and women who make up this agency deserve to be paid a competitive wage," Smith said in a press release. “These pay raises enable our deputies and their families to enjoy a better quality of life. And in turn, the agency benefits when we reward experience and education, by recruiting and retaining quality employees.”
