St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs arrested a former employee after it was learned she was helping to bring illegal narcotics into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
It began when a jail employee was checking mail leaving the correctional center and a suspicious correspondence was discovered.
Jail investigators and detectives with the STPSO Major Crimes Unit were contacted.
The investigation uncovered evidence jail employee, Breanna Sparrow, was assisting individuals inside and outside the facility to facilitate bringing illegal narcotics into the jail.
Sparrow was immediately fired and arrested Friday afternoon.
Sparrow faces three counts of malfeasance, three counts of introduction of contraband into a penal Institution, one count of possession with intent to distribute Schedule III controlled dangerous substances (CDS), one count of illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS.
Sparrow was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
Sparrow had been employed with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office since August 30, 2022.
“This individual abused her position as an employee in the correctional center and used that position as a means to bring contraband into the facility,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “We will not tolerate illegal drugs being brought into our facility, and if you are caught doing so, regardless of who you are, you will be arrested. I continue to hold all of our employees to a higher standard.”
