The first festival in St. Bernard since COVID-19 restrictions have loosened; was tainted Saturday night after a fight at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival in Chalmette triggered rumors of a shooting and a crowd stampede for the exit.

As The Times-Picayune | The Advocate reports, The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office says a fight involving a person brandishing a gun sparked fears of a shooting and caused a large crowd to make a run for the gates.

No one was shot at the festival; however, Sheriff James Pohlmann said a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were shot at the intersection of Juno Drive and Patricia Street in Chalmette, not far from the Crawfish Festival.

Sheriff Pohlmann will have more information on Saturday’s incident at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival and the shooting near the corner of Juno Drive and Patricia Street in a press conference scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday.
