At a press conference on Friday, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson announced the Louisiana State Police are now in the city to help NOPD and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office enforce the city’s bar closures and large gathering ban.
“While this year’s Mardi Gras may look different our priority remains the same and that is public safety,” said LSP spokesperson Lt. Col. Chavez Cammon. “In addition to the highly visible uniform patrols, you will see the Louisiana State Police Fusion Center will provide personnel to the real-time crime center to support the ongoing effort of crime prevention.”
This is the 46th consecutive year LSP has partnered with the city of New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
Lt. Col. Cammon and Chief Ferguson urged residents to call 3-1-1 if they see large crowds or bars breaking the city’s restrictions.
