Sugar Bowl, New Year's Eve pack NOLA hotels

New Orleans is getting ready to put a bow on 2023, and the town is going to be packed.

"This weekend's going to be huge for the city of New Orleans," said Kelly Schulz with New Orleans & Company. "We're seeing hotel occupancy in the high 90 percent, and expecting an economic impact of about $200 million."

Not only are visitors flocking to town to ring in the New Year with the Fleur de Lis drop at Jax Brewery and fireworks over the river, the Allstate Sugar Bowl is a semifinal for this year's College Football Playoff, featuring the #2 Washington Huskies versus the #3 Texas Longhorns.

"Fans for these two particular teams have traveled really well," said Schulz. For Texas fans, it's the Longhorns' first appearance in the college playoff. And for Washington, it's their first-ever Sugar Bowl.

"We like to tout the mild temperatures in New Orleans as a reason why people should visit in the wintertime," said Schulz. "Hopefully, the folks from Washington are seeing a little bit of a break from colder temperatures."
