LSU released shocking news on Saturday afternoon that Josh Maravich passed away at the age of 42. A cause of death has not been revealed. The LSU athletic department said he passed away at the family home in Covington.
The legendary Pistol Pete Marvich died in 1988 at the age of 40. Josh was just five years old when his dad died.
Josh Maravich went on to be a star basketball player at St. Paul’s in Covington, scoring more than 1,000 points in a three-year career. His senior season, Josh Maravich, was named the MVP of his district.
He ended up joining the LSU men’s basketball program in 2001 and played for former LSU Coach John Brady. In three seasons, Maravich only appeared in 13 games, but as he told LSU’s school paper, the Daily Reveille, he cherished the opportunity to play for a school that has the basketball arena named after his legendary dad.
“I wanted to come here for my dad to make him proud,” Josh said in 2005. “I knew I wasn’t going to be a star player, for me being a walk-one was what I always wanted to do.”
Josh and his brother Jaeson Maravich helped design the statue of their father that now stands outside of the LSU basketball practice facility.
