Cops with the new state police troop in New Orleans have increased efforts to go after reckless drivers and car thieves.

"Troop NOLA Troopers were conducting proactive patrols when a 2021 Dodge Charger was observed driving recklessly near Calliope Street and Carondelet Street," authorities posted. "When Troopers initiated a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop, leading Troopers on a pursuit which ended near West End Boulevard and Polk Avenue when the Charger crashed into two civilian vehicles."

The post says that the men inside the vehicle took off running after crashing the Charger.

"With the assistance of local and federal law enforcement partners, Troopers were able to apprehend the driver, 24-year-old Cameron Jones, and passenger, 22-year-old Anthony Jackson."

Troop NOLA says they also found firearms.

"Troopers located two handguns in the vehicle, one of which was illegally modified to be a fully automatic handgun. Marijuana was also found in the vehicle. Additionally, the Charger was determined to be stolen."

Both men now face charges:

Cameron Jones
• Possession of Stolen Vehicle
• Aggravated flight from an officer
• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• Possession of a firearm by someone convicted of Domestic Violence
• Illegal possession of a modified handgun
• Battery on a Police Officer
• other traffic and criminal-related charges

Anthony Jackson
