Forecasters say Edouard could be a hurricane by the time it makes landfall this afternoon.
“Tropical Storm Edouard continues to head toward the northwest Gulf Coast,” WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone said.
He explained the system is expected is to make landfall near the Louisiana / Texas line.
Malone doesn’t expect greater New Orleans to feel much.
“Any local impacts from the storm will remain mainly over the coastal waters and should improve through the morning.”
He says the forecast we could still see a few showers and thunderstorms from Edouard passing through.
The National Hurricane Center has issued Tropical Storm Warnings and Hurricane Watches for western parts of Louisiana and eastern stretches of the Texas coast.
“The combination of storm surge and tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline,” the NHC advised.
Edouard is expected to produce rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches with maximum totals up to 9 inches for parts of the Upper Texas Coast inland through east-central Texas.
