The violent weekend in New Orleans continued on Sunday.

The New Orleans Police Department says it’s investigating three separate shootings that happened in the city during the day. Two of them, investigators say, were deadly.

The first happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Poland and North Claiborne Avenues in the Upper Ninth Ward. According to NOPD spokesperson Breanna Bringier, a man was shot multiple times in his body.
That victim arrived at the hospital via a private vehicle.

The second happened around 9:20 a.m. on Sand Street near Curran Boulevard in New Orleans East. Bringier says witnesses reported shots fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot multiple times while sitting in his car. The victim, identified only as a 42-year-old man, died at the scene.

The last shooting also happened in New Orleans East at the intersection of Hayne Boulevard and Michigan Street. Bringier says a man was shot multiple times in the body. That victim later died at the hospital.
According to Bringier, the case was originally classified as a homicide but was later reclassified as a “negligent injuring.” More details about this particular case are pending.

These three shootings come less than 24 hours after the NOPD responded to a deadly triple shooting in Mid-City. That case also remains under investigation.

All of these shootings continue the Crescent City’s streak of shootings to being the New Year. New Orleans has experienced at least one shooting per day so far in 2023. At least 11 people have died as a result of those shootings.

If you have information about any of these shootings, call the NOPD at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
