
A violent night in New Orleans left two people dead and five people in the hospital after three separate shootings, including a double homicide, happened across the city within an hour of each other.
New Orleans police responded to the double homicide around 12:40 a.m. Saturday when they received a call about gunfire on Delery Street near Douglass Street in the Lower Ninth Ward, a few blocks from the Orleans/St. Bernard Parish Line. According to the NOPD Major Offense Log, police found an Hispanic man dead in the street when they arrived. Officers later found the second victim, also an Hispanic man, dead in the backyard of a home while sweeping the area. Both victim had been shot multiple times.
About 30 minutes later, NOPD officers responded to shooting, this one in New Orleans East. According to the MOL, a group of people at a house party on Bill Street near Gus Street heard multiple gunshots. The bullets from that gunfire wounded four of the party's attendees, three men and one woman. Others at the party drove the victims to two area hospitals. Police say the victims suffered leg, foot, wrist, and buttocks wounds.
The third shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. on General DeGaulle Street near Wall Boulevard in Algiers. Police two men were arguing when one of them pulled a gun and shot the victim. The victim then returned fire, forcing the suspect to flee the scene. The victim took himself to a hospital for treatment.
