
New Orleans is closed on what would be the largest free party anywhere in the world. But on the Friday before Mardi Gras there are no bars open, no stores are selling alcohol by the truckload, and to-go cups are forbidden.
To enforce the city’s shutdown, NOPD officers and OPSO deputies mounted their horses and headed out to Bourbon Street and parts of the French Quarter, searching for any gatherings of revelers celebrating.
